Good Afternoon Warrior Nation,
Coming off a long labor day weekend, HCA Sports are back in high gear.
CROSS COUNTRY- Currently Coach Kris Hellmeister and Coach Kelly Wray have started with a bang. The team started the season off with their 3rd annual Dairy Queen Fun Run and Spirit Night. Thanks to all of the parent volunteers who helped make this event a great success.
A week later the team hosted their first meet of the season against Friendship, Sugar Hill and Parkview. Many of our students stood out with exceptional performances. TJ Samples earned a second place medal, Charlotte Martin earned a first place medal, Aubrey Hester earned a second place medal, Cross Weir earned a Bronze medal, Caitlin Portelli placed 2nd overall, Liam Random placed First place overall, and Evan Holcomb placed second overall. Overall the middle school girls walked away with the first place trophy and the middle school boys snagged the 2ndplace trophy .
Today the Warriors will host their second and largest meet of the season against Fideles, Kings Ridge, Kings Academy, Perimeter, Providence, Pinecrest and Lanier Christian.
Good luck to all the runners today!
MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL- First year Head Coach Holly Underwood has her Middle School Lady Warriors off to a FANTASTIC start with a winning record sitting at 5-1 and leading the region at 3-0. Our 8th graders Hannah Messer, Yancey Dahlberg, Iva Moore, and Bailey Ray, are showing leadership to their younger teammates on and off of the court. “Every game and practice our 7th , 6th , and 5th grade players continuously show improvement which helps to take our team to the next level" says coach Underwood. “Overall, I am extremely proud and blown away by this team”. Coach Underwood and Coach Chaney are dedicated to building this program from the ground up.
VARSITY VOLLEYBALL- Second year Head Coach Hope Chaney and her Varsity girls are off to a rocky start at 1-6 but look to turn things around today on the road at Grace Academy. The absence of Junior Ava green due to injury has been detrimental to the Lady Warriors Chemistry. Ava’s injury has forced Coach Chaney to shuffle the lineup around forcing players to explore new roles. Senior Captain Bennett Ross has been the floor general helping to get her team mates focused . Several new additions to the team have risen to the occasion, one being Alyssa McGarry becoming the teams second setter. The Varsity Lady Warriors Volleyball team is showing immense improvement from last year. “Last year most girls were still learning how to even serve a volleyball, now they have mastered serving and are moving on to learning more advanced forms of serving such as a jump serve. We have won several matches, and for the first time in HCA Volleyball history we beat Unity in a match!” said Coach Chaney. “This year we have a large team, but this has not stopped our five seniors from stepping up and showing positive leadership skills both during practice and in games." Coach Chaney and Coach Underwood have done an amazing job turning around the Volleyball program.
FOOTBALL- The New look Warriors are off to a great start at 3-0. The addition of Johnathan Scott , Dylan Hollingsworth , Avery Blanton, Jae Lee, Stephen Cross, Adrian Bernard, Luke Radtke and Hayden Farris has this year’s team headed in the right direction. Five of those new faces are starters for the Warriors. Sophomore QB Zane Lamonde and Senior WR Johnathan Scott earned recognition as Week 2and Week 3 Offensive players of the week while Junior LB Camden Moore and Junior LB Malachi Mathis earned Week 2 and Week 3 Defensive players of the week.
“These guys have been at it since the end of June and It’s rewarding to see their hard work paying off on the field.“ says coach Taylor. “Our coaching staff works throughout the weekend to make sure these guys are properly prepared and our kids tend to answer the bell when it comes to preparation.“ We have had several players out last week and few out sick this week so hopefully we’re able to stay healthy enough to make it through this week’s game.” The Warriors look to improve their record to 4-0 on the Road in Marietta against a tough Dominion Christian football team this Friday night at 7:30.
Good luck to all the teams as they look to finish the week off strong heading into team building GOOOOOOOOOO WARRIORS!!!!
